ازدواج خسرو با شکر ضربهی روحی بزرگی به شیرین میزند. شیرین که در آن زمان در ارمنستان بهسر میبرد، از دور شاهد این ازدواج است و از این تصمیم بسیار ناراحت میشود. او در خلوت و تنهایی خود به دعا و راز و نیاز مشغول میشود و از خدا میخواهد تا این رنج و اندوه را از دلش بردارد. شیرین در این زمان به نوعی درگیر عشقی پاک و صادقانه است که با سرنوشت و تصمیمات خسرو در تضاد قرار گرفته است.
