زن میانسالی که شوهرش را در تصادف رانندگی از دست داده است بر سر دو راهی مانده است . از طرفی او می تواند خون بهای او را طلب کند در حالیکه می داند خانواده ای که موظف است آن را بپردازد توان پرداختش را ندارد و از طرف دیگر می تواند آن ها را ببخشد و پول را فراموش کند.اما به این دلیل که او فرزندی معلول دارد به این پول نیاز ضروری دارد تا بتواند فرزندش را پیش خودش نگه دارد در غیر این صورت باید او را به آسایشگاه بسپارد. در نهایت قاضی او را مطمئن می کند که آن خانواده توان پرداخت این پول را ندارند و قاضی فقط می تواند آنها را به زندان بیندازد. بنابراین زن آن ها را می بخشد و فرزندش را در آسایشگاه می گذارد اما در میانه راه برگشت به خانه جای خالی او را حس می کند و دوباره به آسایشگاه می رود تا او را برگرداند.
